Hunter Assassin is a stealth action game for Android in which the player takes on the role of a hired assassin, navigating the labyrinthine corridors of dark locations and taking out guards one by one. The game was developed by Ruby Game Studio and quickly gained popularity thanks to its minimalist visual style and simple yet addictive gameplay. Controls are as simple as a single tap — just point in the direction you want to go, and the character will do the rest.
Gameplay
The aim of the game is to sneak up on enemies unnoticed and eliminate them whilst remaining out of sight. Each guard has a cone of light from a torch that defines their field of vision. Entering this cone means failure — enemies start shooting, and a few hits end the level. Moving between walls and partitions creates a sense of a tense hunt, where patience and choosing the right moment are everything. Diamonds are awarded for each enemy eliminated, which are later spent on unlocking new characters with improved stats.
Features
- Over 250 levels with progressively more complex mazes and an increasing number of enemies
- Dozens of unique characters to unlock, each with their own speed and health levels
- Intuitive one-finger controls with no virtual buttons
- Offline mode — an internet connection is not required
- Minimalist top-down graphics that don’t strain your device
Advantages
- Instant start — levels load in seconds, making the game ideal for short sessions on public transport or whilst queuing
- Low system requirements allow the game to run even on budget Android devices
- No complicated menus or settings — everything is clear from the first launch
- Gradually increasing difficulty keeps you engaged for a long time
Disadvantages
- Adverts appear after every level, and their frequency is noticeably annoying unless you purchase the premium version
- Monotonous gameplay — after a few dozen levels, the mechanics remain virtually unchanged, with only new wall configurations being added
- The characters differ mainly in appearance, and the difference in their stats is barely noticeable
- Lack of a storyline — the motivation boils down solely to completing levels and collecting diamonds
Visual style and sound
Hunter Assassin’s graphics are built on the contrast between dark rooms and bright torchlight cones, creating a recognisable neon aesthetic. Animations are minimal, but this is sufficient for the genre. The soundtrack is limited — the background music is unobtrusive, and sound effects are limited to footsteps and gunshots. This minimalist approach paradoxically works in the game’s favour, emphasising the tension of every manoeuvre between patrols.
